The 30 second elevator pitch:
I am a very creative artist/designer with real world knowledge of user experience design. I have a solid background in both print and internet production: for the latter I am well versed in CSS3, HTML5 and the use of JavaScript libraries to create well-contructed, meaningful and arresting media experiences. Whether for print or for the cloud, good design is based on a strong grasp of the essential principles of visual design, of the ways that users interact with their media and a hands on understanding of the technology used to translate ideas into genuine conversations.
Welcome to BlackCat Design Studio (or bcdeStudio as our url would have it). Diane Menyuk, the Principal of bcdeStudio, has over 20 years of experience as an illustrator and a graphic designer for print; and over 8 as an interactive designer. With a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of design, as well as with the ever-changing, ever-expanding technologies used to create graphic experiences, Diane Menyuk has the ability to make your message live visually. A key component of peoples' beliefs about reality is visual perception (as in: “don't tell me — SHOW me!”) With short attention spans, messages that grab and hold attention at a visceral, perceptual and emotional level are key to successful communication.
This site was created as an ongoing portfolio of bcdeStudio's design work. It showcases a variety of projects; some for print, some for the internet, some for illustration and some which move across media boundaries. The site is built around three portfolios: Print Design, Web Design and Illustration/Montage. In the Internet section there is a page, “et alia” or “and others,” which points to areas on the site (outside of the area specifically dedicated to the Internet), where visual appeal and interactivity have been used to enhance user experience. We have also included on that page (and intend to continue to do so) some experiments which, though not currently used on the site, point to some future interactive presentation approaches.
And last but not least, a major shout out to all the wonderful developers and web gurus who so generously share their knowledge and ideas with the rest of us online. You folks are amazing, you have helped us out at all hours of the day and the night, and we are most appreciative. Your generousity has made the use of javascript libraries and current HTML5 and CSS3 techniques accessible (and at times, even entertaining and, dare I say it? FUN) for the most code-shy amongst us...
